Property seized under law by the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office is scheduled to be auctioned to the public beginning at 10 a.m. Thursday in Parking Lot F near EverBank Field and Metropolitan Park.

The Florida Contraband Forfeiture Act provides for the seizure of motor vehicles, aircraft, vessels or other personal property that was used or attempted to be used in the commission of any felony or to aid or abet in the commission of any felony.

The headline vehicle at the auction is a 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo that has a minimum opening bid of $70,000. According to cars.com, it's the only 2004 Gallardo within 250 miles of Jacksonville, the closest being available at a dealer in Sarasota.

Other vehicles on the auction block include a 2005 BMW 723i, a 2007 BMW 328i, a 2006 Ford F-250 King Ranch pickup truck, a 2004 Land Rover Range Rover and a 1995 Jeep Cherokee.

Several motorcycles, a Yamaha Jet Ski with trailer, a Polaris all-terrain vehicle and a golf cart also are on the vehicle inventory for the auction.

A collection of wristwatches and gold jewelry will be auctioned, including a 371-gram 14-karat neck chain appraised at $16,500 with an opening bid of $5,500.

Winning bidders will be required to submit a $100 deposit and must pay the balance of the bid in cash or with a cashier's check by 2 p.m. Thursday.

Proceeds from the auction benefit the Special Law Enforcement Trust Fund, which is used for special projects as determined by the sheriff, such as purchasing tasers for police and corrections officers. The Confidential Vehicle Maintenance Fund, which is used to repair vehicles before auction, also receives a portion of the proceeds.

Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Thursday to allow bidders to inspect the items. Bidding is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
