Show up, put up, speak up

People join NEFBA for a number of reasons. They understand the association has much more influence than they do as an individual or a single company. They recognize the value of networking with their peers. They see value in the training and education programs NEFBA offers. These are just a few benefits of membership.

And, with the benefits come some responsibilities. It's true in business, in relationships, in life.

Other than paying your dues, you might ask, "What are my responsibilities?"

One is to show up. Show up for meetings. Show up to volunteer at NEFBA events. Show up at the polls where issues affecting the industry are ultimately decided.

Another is to put up. Support our fundraisers. Donate building materials and supplies for Builders Care. Support the individual councils with your membership, time and effort.

And, perhaps the most important responsibility is to speak up. Let your voice be heard. Participate. Share your ideas. Express your concerns. If you see an area for improvement, let us know about it. If you don't understand why we do things a certain way, ask. It's possible we're doing them the same way because no one has challenged the status quo.

You are the heart and soul of the association. To the extent that you participate, you will reap greater benefits from your NEFBA membership. You will be more than a card-carrying, dues-paying member. You will be part of the decision-making process. You will be on the creative end and in the driver's seat as we set about creating a future for builders, associated businesses and the local economy. The stronger the association, the better the opportunities are for the community and the home-buying public.

Join up and jump in – you're in good company and the water is just fine.
