After months of speculation concerning what it would be, the One Spark crowdfunding festival opens today at more than 60 Downtown venues.
Exhibition of more than 400 projects including art, music, science and technology begins at 3 p.m., with the One Spark 2013 Opening Ceremony scheduled at 6 p.m. in Hemming Plaza.
Live music, street performers and appearances by the Jacksonville Jaguars mascot Jaxson De Ville, the Roar and the Jaguars D-Line are on the schedule along with remarks from festival organizers and Mayor Alvin Brown.
Artists, performers and inventors were setting up their work Tuesday from Hemming Plaza to the Landing.
One of the first installations was a large "rubber ducky" placed in the fountain at the plaza by local historian Wayne Wood and a team of volunteers.
Wood said the big duck is one of his festival entries and other displays will be in place for One Spark.
The five-day festival features a $250,000 cash prize fund to be distributed to exhibitors in proportion to votes cast by the public for each project.
Jacksonville Jaguars owner Shad Khan has offered up to $1 million in potential capital investment.
