U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation hosts veterans' job fair

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation will host a "Hiring Our Heroes — Jacksonville" hiring fair for veterans and military from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at the JaxPort Cruise Terminal, 9810 August Drive. More than 50 employers are expected to participate with jobs available for veterans and military spouses of all ranks and levels of experience. Since the series of programs began in March 2011, more than 1,200 companies have hired 20,200 veterans at more than 570 hiring fairs. Job seekers can register at hoh.greatjobs.net

NEFBA hires Deal as executive director

The Northeast Florida Builders Association announced Tuesday that Corey Deal has been named executive director. Deal served as the association's government affairs director from 2006-09 and currently serves in the Office of General Counsel for the Georgia Department of Community Health. The association serves the construction industry in Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau, Putnam and St. Johns counties. He begins Sept. 3 and takes the position vacated by state Rep. Daniel Davis, who began serving as JAX Chamber president and CEO on July 1.

City ceremony to honor combat-wounded

The City and Military Order of the Purple Heart on Thursday will honor combat-wounded personnel who have served in the military. The annual Purple Heart Day Ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Wall at 1145 E. Adams St. City Council member Don Redman; Rear Adm. Victor Guillory, City Military Affairs, Veterans and Disabled Services Department director; and Sgt. Maj. Rickey Mendez of the Florida Army National Guard will take part in the event. Mendez is the keynote speaker.

Jaguars bring back 'Coin Toss' tickets…

The Jacksonville Jaguars have brought back its "Coin Toss" ticket promotion for the 7:30 p.m. Friday preseason opener against the Miami Dolphins. The promotion allows fans to purchase $20 "Coin Toss" ticket certificates at EverBank Field from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday-Friday. They exchange the certificates for general bowl tickets beginning at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Most are single seats and fans can purchase up to four certificates. …and announce growth in radio and TV affiliate roster

The Jacksonville Jaguars will open the preseason at 7:30 p.m. Friday with its largest combined group of radio and TV affiliates in the past 16 years. The team's radio and TV programming for the 2013 season covers North and Central Florida and parts of Georgia, South Carolina and Alabama. There will be 17 radio and 10 TV affiliates.
