Julington Creek Fish Camp approved

Mandarin diners and visitors can expect the Julington Creek Fish Camp to open this fall at 12760 San Jose Blvd.

The City approved the permit Monday for Bosco Building Contractors to renovate the building, a former restaurant, at a project cost of $750,000.

The permit says Bosco will remodel the restaurant and bring the building up to code. It's a 5,103-square-foot project.

The Facebook page for Julington Creek Fish Camp indicates a late September opening.

The Daily Record reported in December that restaurateurs Ben and Liza Groshell were planning to lease the closed two-story restaurant, the former New Orleans Cafe, at Julington Creek in Mandarin and renovate it for opening possibly this summer.

The first floor comprises dining, kitchen space, offices and storage. The second-floor plan includes inside and outdoor dining, an entry porch, kitchen, coolers and an oyster preparation area.

Groshell said it would have 150 seats, with 100 inside and 50 on the deck.

The Groshells operate Marker 32, Palm Valley Fish Camp and North Beach Fish Camp, all along or near water.

Second PDQ restaurant planned at Bartram Park

Jacksonville's second PDQ restaurant appears to be planned at 13730 Old St. Augustine Road at the Shoppes at Bartram Park.

The first PDQ, which is backed by hometown quarterback Tim Tebow, is under construction at a project cost of $1.1 million in Hodges Pointe Plaza at Hodges and Beach boulevards in Southside.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is reviewing plans for the Bartram PDQ. Plans show a one-story, 4,411-square-foot building on 1.28 acres.

Bohler Engineering is the agent and England, Thims & Miller Inc. is the consultant.

The "People Dedicated to Quality" restaurant is a Tampa-based chicken sandwich chain. Its menu features chicken tenders along with chicken and turkey sandwiches, salads, sides and shakes.

TBO.com, the news site of the Tampa Tribune, reported April 28 that Tebow is financially backing several North Florida locations of chain.
