AT&T is vacating all or part of seven floors at 301 W. Bay St., ending the telecommunication corporation's tenancy that began in 1983 when Southern Bell put its name on the 30-story office tower.
Pamela Smith, who represents EverBank Center owner El Ad Florida LLC, said Tuesday that 245,000 square feet of space occupied by AT&T in the 1 million-square-foot building will be empty by April 30.
She said much of the space already has been vacated due to department downsizing and consolidation. The call center operation will relocate to Centurion Parkway in South Jacksonville, she said.
Working with the JAX Chamber, the JAX USA Partnership of the chamber and national commercial real estate brokers, Smith said a single tenant is sought, but El Ad could choose to lease the space to multiple tenants.
"We are marketing it as the largest contiguous Class A office space in the Southeast south of Atlanta and we've already got activity," said Smith.
EverBank announced in December 2011 it was moving 1,500 employees into the building and would put its name on the iconic Downtown tower.
"The building has a better buzz that it did three years ago," Smith said.
She said El Ad has no intention at this time to sell the building and has begun more than $4 million in upgrades to the HVAC system and the elevators.
"We are focused on making it the landmark office building in the Southeast," Smith said.
