A European tradition is scheduled to be celebrated Jacksonville-style on Oct. 11-12 when the inaugural Jaxtoberfest family fall celebration takes over The Shipyards along the Northbank of the St. Johns River.
Event organizer Mike White, president of Client Focused Media, said the idea for the festival began two years ago.
He said he was inspired to make the idea a reality after participating in the JAX Chamber trip to Cincinnati, where the delegates attended that city's fall beer, bratwurst and oompah music festival.
Jacksonville's version will have a different twist in addition to the traditional fare.
"About one-fourth of the event will be for children," said White.
Also on the agenda are games, live entertainment and sponsor hospitality opportunities, he said.
The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. Oct. 11, when Downtown office workers will be encouraged to leave work early and head for Jaxtoberfest.
The event intended to start the weekend early is sponsored by the JAX Chamber.
