The Jacksonville Jaguars hired former Atlanta Falcons Director of Player Development David Caldwell on Tuesday to be its new general manager.
Caldwell, 38, is a 17-year NFL veteran and spent the past five seasons with the Falcons.
“We got our man. I have a lot of faith in David Caldwell and I can assure our fans that the best days for the Jacksonville Jaguars are in front of us,” said Jaguars owner Shad Khan in a statement released Tuesday.
Last year was his first as director of player development, where he oversaw college and pro scouting and worked with Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff.
“There are no bad GM opportunities in the NFL, but to work on behalf of a dynamic owner in a rabid football city like Jacksonville is truly special,” Caldwell said in the release.
Before the promotion, Caldwell spent the past four seasons as the Falcon’s director of college scouting. Before joining the Falcons, Caldwell worked for the Indianapolis Colts where he worked as the Western regional scout. He began his NFL career in 1996 as a scout with the Carolina Panthers.
Khan will introduce Caldwell at a 4 p.m. Thursday news conference at EverBank Field.
The Jaguars released former General Manager Gene Smith on Dec. 31 after his teams compiled a 22-42 record since he was promoted in 2009 to general manager.
