Mission
To provide a "place like home" for patients coming to Jacksonville for extended stays for organ transplants or cancer treatment.
Serving Jacksonville
We are an independent, nonprofit based in Jacksonville. We opened our doors in April 2011 at this location on the west campus of Mayo Clinic Florida. However, for more than a decade, we served patients and caregivers through our former, smaller hospitality house, which was in Jacksonville Beach.
Those served
We serve guests from around the state, across the country and the world. We have served more than 1,500 families since we opened this house in 2011.
Biggest challenge
Being a newer nonprofit in Jacksonville, gaining exposure in our community about who we are and what we do requires focus and time.
Biggest satisfaction
Seeing the strength and courage of the human spirit in our guests as they come together here in support and care for one another. All are going through, or have gone through, huge medical turmoil. There is a wonderful camaraderie in this house that is rare to experience elsewhere.

First experience with community service
I served on the board with We Care Jacksonville for more than 15 years, first with Sister DeSales Wisniewski and then with current Executive Director Sue Nussbaum. It was an amazing experience in not only understanding, but in actually taking action to help with the plight of the medically needy in our community.
Your job before Gabriel House of Care
Most of my career has been in business development in the banking field. I left banking to work as director of development for City Rescue Mission, which works with homelessness and addiction.
Upcoming events
Oct. 7: Gabriel House of Care Annual Golf Tournament, Deerwood Country Club.
Also, our advisory council will host a fundraiser this fall.
