Through the efforts of several hundred volunteers, Jack Daniel’s Distillery and the USO, more than 7,000 U.S. military personnel about to be sent to Afghanistan or already deployed will receive a package from home.

The 19th “Toast for the Troops” on Thursday at the Landing was an opportunity for USO volunteers and the general public to send a bag containing toiletries, snacks, reading material and a prepaid international calling card to soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who are serving on the front lines.

Each package also included a “toast card” with a personal message to the recipient and a Jack Daniel’s bandana.

Since the partnership began in 2005, more than 165,000 Operation USO Care Packages have been delivered overseas.

“Jack Daniel’s has always supported the military and this is our way to support the troops,” said company representative Jill Meyer.

“Jacksonville is a military town with three USO centers and the Landing is in the heart of the business district,” said Emily Branch, USO in-kind account manager.
