If you are planning to read a book – or books – this summer and you work, live or plan to spend a day Downtown, Chamblin's Uptown Bookstore and Café has plenty of options.

The two-story depository of printed information and entertainment at 215 N. Laura St. near the Main Library contains more than 600,000 books from paperbacks to rare volumes plus DVDs and CDs.

Uptown is the second location for Chamblin's Bookmine, with the original along Roosevelt Boulevard near Ortega. For three decades, it has earned a reputation for offering "used, new and nonexistent books."

Jennifer O'Donnell, Uptown manager, said one of the fiction titles expected to be a popular read this summer is "The Night Circus" by Erin Morgenstern.

According to its publisher, the book tells the story of two young lovers and a mysterious circus that may change their lives forever.

"It's a dark, fantasy love story. It's extremely odd, but a lot of fun," said O'Donnell.

On the nonfiction side, O'Donnell said a book predicted to be one of this year's top summer reads is "Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void" by science writer Mary Roach.

It's a guide to living in outer space and interplanetary travel.

The company also offers trade-ins.

"After you finish reading a book, bring it back. We'll give you book credit and then you can get more books," said O'Donnell.
