Florida Coastal School of Law President Dennis Stone announced Tuesday that Chidi Ogene will serve as the school’s interim dean during the search for a permanent dean.

Ogene most recently served as general counsel of the InfiLaw System, a consortium of independent ABA-approved law schools that includes Coastal Law, Phoenix School of Law

and Charlotte School of

Law.

Ogene succeeds Peter Goplerud, who stepped down May 6 to serve as president of a new InfiLaw management services company that intends to focus on best practices in legal education.

Stone expects Coastal Law will name a permanent dean by January, but said Ogene is committed to the school if the search is extended.

Coastal Law said in a news release that Ogene received a joint JD and MBA from Georgetown University and also received an LLB from the University of Nigeria. He is a member of the Georgetown University Law Alumni Board, Nigerian Lawyers Association, National Black MBA Association, and the New York, Washington, D.C., and Nigeria bars.

Before joining InfiLaw, Ogene was a partner in Gilbert LLP in Washington, D.C., where he practiced commercial and corporate law. He previously was an associate in the corporate finance group with Sullivan and Cromwell LLP in New York and Washington, D.C.
