The City is reviewing plans and a building-permit application for tenant improvements to convert the former Pizza Palace near Five Points into a 7-Eleven convenience store.
No contractor is listed for the $457,000 project to renovate the 2,532-square-foot store.
The property encompasses less than an acre at Margaret and Post streets.
Harrison French & Associates of Bentonville, Ark., is the architect.
A sign on the door at 920 Margaret St. says Pizza Palace closed May 4, 2012, "to make way for a National Chain."
It said Pizza Palace will move "in the near future" to a new location in the Riverside/Avondale area.
It invites customers to visit its other restaurants at 1959 San Marco Blvd., 3928 Baymeadows Road and 116 Bartram Oaks Walk in Julington Creek.
Dallas-based 7-Eleven has nine stores in Duval County along with two in Clay County and one in St. Johns County, its 7-eleven.com website shows. Several more are in review or under construction.
7-Eleven President and CEO Joe DePinto said in March 2012 the company would open more than 80 stores in the Jacksonville area by 2015.
