How did you become involved?
I believe it is our responsibility as lawyers to use our time and talent to give to those who are less fortunate and need our help, whether it is in the civic community, through faith-based organizations or the local Bar association. Individuals from different organizations have asked me to get involved and I have a hard time saying "no."
How can someone else get involved?
JALA makes it easy to choose cases as they are online for someone to select. Training is provided if there is an area of law with which you are unfamiliar. JWLA is a wonderful networking organization and is open to all attorneys. The monthly meetings provide great speakers and during the year, there are opportunities to volunteer in the community. Otherwise, simply look around to find an organization that needs your time and talent and jump in with both feet.
What have you learned/achieved through the experience?
I have met some wonderful people and found fulfillment in assisting others.
What was the last book you read or are reading?
"Les Miserables," by Victor Hugo.
