Julington Creek Fish Camp aims for opening by late summer
Restaurateur Ben Groshell said Monday night he hopes to open the Julington Creek Fish Camp by mid-September.
The Daily Record reported in December that Ben and Liza Groshell are planning to lease the closed restaurant at Julington Creek in Mandarin and renovate it for opening possibly this summer.
The restaurant, at 12760 San Jose Blvd., is the former New Orleans Café.
The City is reviewing a building-permit application for the restaurant, called Creekside Fish Camp on plans but also referring to the Julington Creek Creekside Fish Camp.
The Groshells operate Marker 32, Palm Valley Fish Camp and North Beach Fish Camp, all along or near water.
Marker 32 and Palm Valley Fish Camp are along the Intracoastal Waterway and the North Beach Fish Camp is near the Atlantic Ocean.
Bosco Building Contractor is listed as the contractor for the $500,000 project to remodel the two-story restaurant. The architect is Cronk Duch Architecture.
The first floor comprises dining, kitchen space, offices and storage. The second-floor plan includes inside and outdoor dining, an entry porch, kitchen, coolers and an oyster preparation area.
Plans indicate a 7,151-square-foot project. The existing building has 5,103-square-feet of interior air-conditioned space on the first and second floors. The renovations will add 2,048 square feet of air-conditioned interior space on the second floor.
There also will be new deck space.
Groshell said it would have 150 seats, with 100 inside and 50 on the deck.
The permit application says the entire building is being brought up to code.
The Daily Record reported April 30 the City was reviewing site plans for the proposed Julington Creek Fish Camp. The property is owned by Wiley Andreu.
The civil engineer is EnVision Design & Engineering LLC. Julington Creek LLC is the property owner.
On June 5, the restaurant's Facebook page posted: "A few more months and you can have lunch at our newest Fish Camp! It will be worth the wait!"
