More than 200 people from across the world were in the Hicks Auditorium in the Main Library Conference Center on Wednesday, the eve of the 13th annual “World Refugee Day.” The program included dancers and musicians representing the city’s immigrant population. Mayor Alvin Brown proclaimed today World Refugee Day in Jacksonville in recognition of Jacksonville’s residents who formerly were refugees. Betzy Santiago, special assistant to the mayor, said last year more than 1,000 refugees chose Jacksonville as their home.
