The Museum of Contemporary Art has a new exhibit of sculpture by Michael Aurbach, the 4th Annual Barbara Ritzman Devereaux Visiting Artist at the University of North Florida College of Art & Design.

Aurbach is a professor of art at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., whose work provides commentary on social issues, secrecy, academic politics, institutional behavior and other issues.

He grew up in Wichita, Kan., and attended the University of Kansas where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in studio art and a Master of Arts in art history.

Aurbach received his Master of Fine Arts in sculpture from Southern Methodist University in Dallas. He has been teaching sculpture and drawing at Vanderbilt for the past 27 years.

Aurbach has had more than 50 solo exhibitions of his work since 1986 and in 2001 was recognized with the inaugural exhibition of contemporary art at the Frist Center for the Visual Arts in Nashville.

The exhibition is scheduled through April 29 in the UNF Gallery.

Aurbach will present a lecture about his work and career at 7 p.m. today in the theater at the museum. Admission is free.
