It was City Hall and not the beach, but Mayor Alvin Brown met Jacksonville Beach resident and professional surfer Cody Thompson on Thursday. Thompson, 23, won the 4-Star 2013 Rip Curl Pro surfing contest that featured more than 150 competitors Feb. 13 in Jobos, Isabela, Puerto Rico. Thompson is the first Jacksonville resident to win a 4-Star surfing contest. Thompson is a former member of the USA Surf Team and the winner of the 2008 Quiksilver King of the Peak contest in Florida. He was named No. 42 in Surfer magazine's "Surfer Hot 100" in 2010.
