FreshPoint North Florida, a food-service distributor, filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice with the state that it will lay off 79 employees at its 3100 Hilton St. location.
The company has 32 locations, including six in Florida.
The North Florida location website says it has a line of fresh fruits, vegetables, specialty produce, gourmet fancy foods, custom "FreshCuts" and an expanded line of cheese, specialty cheeses and dairy products it distributes to restaurants, resorts, hotels, hospitals, schools and other entities.
Its food-service area comprises Alachua, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Leon, Nassau and St. Johns counties in Florida and Camden and Glynn counties in Georgia.
It has wholesale and retail customers throughout Florida and exports from the Jacksonville port, according to the website.
The company is a subsidiary of Sysco, a food-service distributor with $42.4 billion in revenue, ranking No. 65 on the Fortune 500 list.
Wendy Olson, Sysco communications director, said the company anticipates 30 positions being available at its FreshPoint Central Florida site, with positions also available at Sysco Jacksonville.
"We're currently working with our affected associates to inform them about other available opportunities," Olson said in an email.
She said a portion of the FreshPoint North Florida business will transition to the Central Florida location, with another portion moving to Sysco Jacksonville.
Olson said the Central Florida facility is "one of the finest in the industry" and has up-to-date technology systems, expansive inventory selection and operational and energy efficiency programs.
The 79 employees represent the total workforce at the Jacksonville location, which is not shutting down or merging, she said.
Olson said she was not aware if there were similar actions at any other FreshPoint locations.
The layoff dates will be between July 8-22.
