The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is closing its field offices in Orlando and Tampa.

HUD will still have two Florida offices in Jacksonville and Miami, as well as the regional office in Atlanta. Staff from these offices currently manage program delivery to Central Florida and will continue to work with clients in the affected areas.

Nationwide, HUD plans to close 16 of its 80 field offices, affecting about 120 employees, by early fiscal year 2014. The department says it will save anywhere from $110 to $150 million in lease and operating costs over a 10-year period.

HUD also announced changes to its Office of Multifamily Housing Programs in addition to the field offices. The changes include multifamily hub consolidation nationwide. Completion of the entire restructuring process is expected to take approximately two and a half years.
