State Rep. Daniel Davis will become president and CEO of the JAX Chamber effective July 1, succeeding Wally Lee, who retired and stepped down last year after 23 years in the position.
The announcement is scheduled at noon today at the JAX Chamber's Downtown headquarters, which are under renovation.
Davis is executive director of the Northeast Florida Builders Association.
Sources familiar with the announcement, but who requested anonymity, said a transition plan is under way at the builders' trade group and that it has not been determined whether Davis will keep his seat in the Legislature.
Davis is chairman of the house Transportation & Highway Safety Subcommittee.
Davis was chosen by local Republican leaders in 2010 to replace former Florida Rep. Jennifer Carroll on the ballot after Carroll was tapped by Gov. Rick Scott as his running mate for lieutenant governor. Davis was subsequently re-elected.
JAXUSA Partnership President Jerry Mallot has been serving as interim president at the chamber.
The search committee was led by former chamber Chair Kelly Madden and comprised current chamber chair Greg Smith of Bank of America Merrill Lynch, former chairs Tom Van Berkel of Main Street America Group, Ed Burr of GreenPointe Holding, Hugh Greene of Baptist Health and Mike Hightower of Florida Blue; chamber board member Giselle Carson of Marks Gray; and chamber member Suzi Lemen of Dynamic Corporate Solutions Inc.
The committee hired Maryland-based Krauthamer & Associates to conduct the nationwide search. The position attracted about 150 applicants.
