In a two-phase celebration Wednesday, Downtown Vision Inc. marked 13 years of Downtown advocacy and opened champagne for a toast to 10 years of First Wednesday Art Walk.
Terry Lorince, DVI executive director, said as the Downtown property tax-funded organization moves forward, it will work toward several objectives.
She said developing strategic partnerships and "placemaking," making the streets look better, are priorities.
Continuing to tell Downtown's story also will be a goal for DVI in the next year, as will ensuring the sustainability of the organization, Lorince said.
"It's a massive attack on a lot of little things. We're going to make Downtown pop," she said.
Diane Brunet-Garcia, chair of the Cultural Council of Greater Jacksonville board of directors, unveiled the new branding for the "Spark District," a defined area on the Northbank slated for artistic projects.
She said the new logo was inspired by the layout of Downtown's streets. The custom font "is the cornerstone of our unique and spirited identity."
Through private investment, four projects have been funded for the Spark program.
The projects to be unveiled soon are a plan to place art in windows in empty Downtown buildings, a "sculpture walk" collection, a songwriters' residency program and "Swamp Radio Jax" performance art.
Brunet-Garcia said the new logo will be placed on the sidewalk and on banners affixed to the lamp posts on the Northbank.
"It's not just a region, it's an attitude," she said.
