There's more to post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping in Jacksonville than malls, town centers and big-box retail. Downtown merchants are offering discounts, promotions and local alternatives to facing the crowds this holiday season.

Clothing, jewelry, rare books and myriad other gifts are available from locally owned retail businesses in the neighborhood.

The Museum of Contemporary Art and the Museum of Science and History offer gift memberships and each has a store stocked with gifts and collectibles not found anywhere else.

Fionn MacCool's, Indochine, Burrito Gallery and other restaurants sell gift cards in various denominations.

The Downtown Marketing Collaborative, originators of the "Downtown Is On Fire" campaign, has launched a way for shoppers to find deals and retailers Downtown by visiting downtownisonfire.com/promotions.

The campaign also is being promoted on social media on Twitter @downtownisonfire and Facebook.com/downtownonfire, as well as through other shoppers sharing information on the sites with the hashtag #shopdtjax.
