There was quite a bit of activity Downtown on Saturday with Community First Saturday, the debut of a new music festival and the one-year anniversary of one of the neighborhood's retailers.
Community First Saturday is scheduled the first Saturday of each month, when vendors set up booths along the Northbank Riverwalk near the Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts. Food trucks also are part of the event for people who want to make a day of it Downtown.
The Jacksonville Original Music Festival brought more than 100 bands Downtown. Genres from country to electronica were showcased at the free event. Stages were set up at the Landing and several nightlife venues along East Bay, Ocean and Forsyth streets also hosted the inaugural festival.
Diversions Relaxation & Gifts was the site of a first anniversary celebration. Owners Ida Metzger and Daniel Day invited customers to the store for cake and champagne.
There are plenty of events in the neighborhood scheduled this week on Saturday, including the annual Out of Darkness Community Walk and Mind Ride Cycles Custom Bike Show at the Landing, the National College Fair at the Prime Osborn Convention Center, the Junior League Holiday Market at the Fairgrounds & Expo Center, Jaxtoberfest at the Shipyards property, and Bill O'Reilly and Dennis Miller with their "Bolder and Fresher" show at the Florida Theatre.
