Beverly Hills has Rodeo Drive, New York City has Fifth Avenue and Miami has Ocean Drive.
While not as long or as famous, Downtown has its own "Retail Row" along Laura Street. From the riverfront shopping and entertainment mall at the Landing to the First Baptist Church's Lighthouse Book Store at 525 N. Laura St., myriad products are available for shoppers.
The street is home to Jacksonville's oldest continuously operating retail store, Jacobs Jewelers, which opened in Downtown in 1890.
Originally located 123 years ago at the corner of Bay and Hogan streets, the store burned down in the Great Fire of 1901 and then reopened at 33 W. Forsyth St. It remained there until 1930, when Victor Jacobs moved his store, and the historic clock, to the corner of Adams and Laura streets.
The block of Laura between Adams and Monroe streets is the address for many of Downtown's newest retail stores.
