While there is no parade on Columbus Day in Jacksonville, there was a procession of bargain-hunting fans of live entertainment lined up at the box office Monday at the Florida Theatre.

The theater offered for one day only $10 tickets to any of 19 scheduled performances, from the Tower of Power concert Friday to The Irish Rovers Farewell Tour scheduled Feb. 15 at the historic venue.

In between, seeing a show for a sawbuck was available for dates including The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Oct. 26; Spyro Gyra, Nov. 15; Cirque Dreams Holidaze, Nov. 23; the 22nd Annual Community Nutcracker, Dec. 13-14; Abba: The Tour, Jan. 16; and Ray Price, Jan. 31.

Florida Theatre for the Performing Arts Inc. President Numa Saisselin said the one-day discount is a promotion he brought to Jacksonville from his previous job as CEO of the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank, N.J.

“True sellouts are very rare. This is a way to move some tickets that wouldn’t be sold and to make some people happy,” he said.
