Competitive quilters and hobbyists are gathering this weekend at the Prime Osborn Convention Center for QuiltFest 2013.
It is the 17th year textile art designed and created by some of the best quilters in America has been exhibited Downtown.
More than 460 quilts have been entered in the show, said Gay Montgomery, quilter and show manager.
“We have more quilts this year than ever before,” she said.
QuiltFest also is a competition, with all but about 20 quilts – those made by quilters in high school or younger – competing for ribbons and cash prizes in several categories.
Montgomery said charter buses are bringing quilt connoisseurs from as far away as South Florida and Birmingham, Ala., to view this year’s entries. More than 70 vendors have set up a quilting supply shopping area.
There also is a booth where quilters whose ability to create exceeds their capacity to store make their work available for purchase, said Montgomery.
QuiltFest 2013 is open 9 a.m.-5 p.m. today, Friday and Saturday.
