Two very important dates are just around the corner: Aug. 26 and Nov. 4. And both dates require some preparation on your part and active participation on those specific dates.
In Florida, Aug. 26 is the primary election and Nov. 4 is the general election. At stake are critical state and local offices, beginning with the gubernatorial race and including state senate and house seats, county commissioners, school board representatives and the mayoral race in St. Augustine.
If you’ve been working in the industry in this area for any length of time, you know how critical it is to have the support and leadership of the right people in the right positions. I urge you to get to know the candidates’ positions and records before you head to the polls.
NEFBA did just that. Our PAC committees conducted in-depth interviews with the candidates and selected those who support the construction industry to endorse.
The decisions were then ratified by our executive committee and the board of directors. That list appears on Page 28 in this edition and I hope you’ll join us with your support of these endorsed candidates.
Ultimately the decision and the responsibility are yours. As a member of the community, the industry and the association, you have the opportunity to shape the future. It’s a privilege and a duty we can’t take lightly.
The Florida Division of Elections website has information about the elections, including absentee ballots, candidate lists, voter registration, election dates, early voting and precincts by visiting election.dos.state.fl.us/. Educate yourself and then vote your conscience.
“Elections belong to the people. It’s their decision. If they decide to turn their back on the fire and burn their behinds, then they will just have to sit on their blisters.” – Abraham Lincoln
Let’s avoid sitting on our blisters.
Sincerely,
Daniel Blanchard
