Florida

Florida Sen. David Simmons, R-Altamonte Springs, has proposed the Florida Springs and Aquifer Protection Act, which would create springs protection zones throughout the state, as determined by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.

Protected zones would include, but are not limited to, property along the St. Johns River, southwest Clay County, large portions of Putnam County and all of Bradford and Union counties. All told, more than 40 Florida counties would be affected. These zones would be established by July 2015.

The bill will be considered during the upcoming legislative session.
