NEFBA’s membership drives have some notable moments.

In 1994, the highly successful membership drive pushed NEFBA over the 3,000-member mark, making it the first local home builders association to do so.

Successful membership drives may involve an outrageous challenge between competing teams. A past president pushes an incumbent president around Hemming Plaza in a wheelbarrow. An executive director shaves his head. The challenges are designed to motivate teams’ competitive spirit and put some fun into the effort.

Make no mistake, though. Membership is a serious matter. An association is as strong as its membership. There is no denying that there is strength in numbers, and as our membership grows, so does our influence, our effectiveness and our ability to support the growth of the industry.

This year our teams have worked hard to enlist new members, and we all will reap the benefits of their efforts. The results will be tallied May 15, and I’m sure the final numbers will reflect not only the growth of the industry but the dedication of our committed teams and their captains to see the association grow.

From the campaign kickoff on May 1 through the three-day call-a-thon, many of you have contributed your time and effort to make this year’s membership drive successful.

As we wrap up the membership drive, it is a good to remember that enlisting new members is a year-around responsibility of each and every existing member. Recruiting new members throughout the year is recognized and rewarded through NAHB’s Spike Club.

Members of this group are among the most valued members of the association, and their efforts are the largest source of growth for home builders associations across the country. You can learn more about becoming a Spike Club member at nahb.org.

Spikes also receive special recognition on the local level, and I encourage you make enrolling new members a priority. Not only are you helping the local, state and national associations, but you are giving each new member access to the benefits you enjoy as a NEFBA member and a real voice in the future of the industry.

Sincerely,

Daniel Blanchard
