Duval County

NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee: Meets at 8:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 21 at the NEFBA office, 103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100, Jacksonville.

Snipe sign fine increase: A bill to increase fines on snipe signs is moving again in the council with some changes. After being approached by NEFBA and NEFAR, council member Lori Boyer offered an amendment to the legislation that would leave the fine for the first offense at $55 level. The new bill will still increase fees after the first offense.

Zoning department change: The City of Jacksonville’s Zoning Department has recently begun to limit the number of permits that can be submitted per day. Due to an increase in permits in the county, the department has instituted a new rule to accept only three applications per builder at a time. NEFBA representatives have contacted the department in an effort to find a solution to the delays created by this new rule.

Clay County

Adult entertainment ordinances: The Clay County Commission is considering legislation that would change the way adult entertainment is regulated. Currently, the county has a ban on all sexually oriented businesses, but concerns over the constitutionality of an outright ban have prompted the commission to look at alternatives. The three proposed ordinances aim to make operating a sexually oriented business in Clay County cost prohibitive, but not completely illegal. Citizens have turned out in large numbers at county meetings to voice concern about the proposed legislation and the possible affects it can have to Clay County family friendly image.
