Look for Clay County to invest appreciably in transportation and infrastructure over the next two years.
That’s what Gavin Rollins, Clay County Commissioner District 4, told members of the Clay Builders Council’s at the group’s March breakfast meeting.
The commission recently opted to use $20 million of unspent capital improvement bond money for transportation and infrastructure, rather than for a sports complex.
“It’s fun to do these other projects, but … transportation is an important function of government,” the first-term commissioner said.
Rollins also responded to a question on transportation impact fees, which are levied on new developments.
He said he would continue the impact-fee moratorium or eliminate the fees altogether. He favors extending the Local Government Infrastructure Surtax to fund transportation.
“We do need to pay for our transportation needs, but I think it needs to be a burden shared by everyone,” he said.
