In a letter to the membership, FHBA President Jerry Linder talked about the meaning of advocacy and the role of volunteer leaders at the national meeting of the National Association of Home Builders.

Linder, owner the JL Linder Group in St. Augustine and Vintage Homes in Tallahassee, served as NEFBA president in 2006.

In particular Linder said advocacy activities are crucial to the state’s future.

“We (Florida builders) continue to face unique challenges in Florida (high foreclosure rates, flood plains, endangered species and wetlands — just to name a few),” Linder said.” It is imperative that Florida’s voice be heard and our interests protected when our national partner sets policy.”

Linder recognized and thanked volunteers and executive officers who participated in the NAHB meeting.

“There is a completely separate education track for our talented staffs which better equips our EOs to understand and articulate the national value,” he said. “When they’re attending, they often work double-time attending sessions all day and then working early and late to keep their offices running. Thanks to these staff leaders for making the extra effort to stay up-to-date.”

NEFBA’s Corey Deal was among the executive officers attending the meeting.

Linder’s words to the local association members calls for an appreciation of those involved.

“As you see these folks back home, be sure to thank them for making the time and effort to advocate for Florida at the meeting of the NAHB and working so hard to position FHBA as a successful organization,” he said.
