Proposed Fernandina Beach LDC change: The Fernandina Beach Planning Advisory Board voted against recommending a citizen’s proposal to change the Fernandina Beach Land Development Code to prohibit certain hazardous materials and heavy industrial activities. The bill will proceed to the Fernandina Beach City Council for final action June 19.

NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee: The next Government Affairs meeting is 8:30 a.m. Thursday, May 28, at the NEFBA Offices (103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100).
Endorsed candidates: NEFBA updated its list of endorsed candidates for the May 19 general election. Ju’Coby Pittman (At Large Group 5) was added to previously endorsed candidates Lenny Curry (mayor), Mike Williams (sheriff), Anna Brosche (At-Large Group 1), Tommy Hazouri (At-Large Group 3), Mike Anania (District 1), Al Ferraro (District 2), Scott Wilson (District 4), Reggie Gaffney (District 7) and Katrina Brown (District 8) on the NEFBA Build-Pick. Early voting begins May 4.
City appointments: Five NEFBA members were appointed to a variety of Jacksonville board and commission posts. They include Past President Daniel Blanchard (Planning Commission), Past President Curtis Hart (Context Sensitive Streets), Leed Silverfield (Subdivision Standard and Policy Advisory Committee), Joe Loretta (Downtown Development Review Board) and David Wakefield (Housing and Community Development).

Impact fee moratorium: With a 5-0 vote, Clay Commissioners extended the road impact fee moratorium for six months, during which time NEFBA will work with the commissioners to develop alternatives to the impact fee. Commissioner Gavin Rollins made the move to extend.
Adult entertainment bill: With a 3-2 vote, Clay Commissioners moved the controversial bill to the Planning Commission. A public workshop will be scheduled, and the Planning Commission is expected to hear the bill in June.
New planning director: Clay County’s new planning director, Ed Lehman, was formerly director of transportation and community development for the Northeast Florida Regional Council.

Special election results: St. Johns County held its general election April 7 for House District 17 and 24, and Senate District 6. NEFBA-endorsed candidates Cyndi Stevenson (House District 17), Paul Renner (House District 24) and Rep. Travis Hutson (Senate District 6) won their races by wide margins. The three were sworn in April 8 in Tallahassee.
