NEFBA’s E-Council is offering its quarterly training session at the NEFBA offices Nov. 5.
This training session will cover two important topics that anyone in new construction or concerned about energy costs should know: using the energy code compliance software and how utility rate structures work.
The first topic is dealing with the impacts of the current Florida Building Code fifth edition. The newest code has ratcheted up its efficiency requirements and what used to pass the previous code may not work anymore.
Mike Berry, mechanical engineer from Apex Technology, will be presenting on the changes in the energy code and how they can be properly addressed in the code compliance software, Energy Gauge.
He will be discussing different energy-efficiency elements, such as SEER, low-E windows, insulation and radiant barriers and others.
He will discuss how these items can be applied correctly into the Energy Gauge Software and their impact on a builder’s ability to comply with the new energy code.
Then David Reed, a Commercial Account Executive with JEA, will delve deep into utility electric rate structures.
As the world of power, energy and efficiency changes ever faster, utilities are adjusting rate structures to meet the challenges of these changes.
A strong understanding of how various rate structures work, how to design and build for them and how to educate your customers will be an essential tool in your building science toolbox.
Residential to medium sized business rates will be discussed, including demand rates, time of use rates, standby rates, energy only rates and net metering rates.
Please join us to learn more and network with local building professionals.
