Lotus on Orange in Sarasota was selected as the South Atlantic regional winner of the 2015 Best in American Living Awards by the National Association of Home Builders.

The home was designed by Leader Design Studio of Sarasota. The home’s builder, Josh Wynne Construction of Sarasota, and interior designer, SAWA Design, also of Sarasota, were recipients of the same award in 2014 for their work on a previous project.

The styling of Lotus on Orange combines European-modern with California-modern, featuring cypress wood detailing, terrazzo tiles and bamboo panels. Abundant natural light flows through large expanses of thoughtfully placed windows, while large sliders and casement glass allow for passive ventilation through the home.

The home boasts three courtyards: an entry court with a koi and lotus pond; an L-shaped rear court designed around the pool, outdoor fireplace and kitchen area; and a private courtyard that is accessible only through the master bath.

Contest judges commented on the home’s creative use of elevation that makes it more eye catching than most other single-story homes. Judges also applauded the home’s bright and serene atmosphere, noting the wood accents and other beautiful finishes throughout.

Award winners were announced at the annual NAHB International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas.
