The 2016 Florida legislative session began in January, and Northeast Florida was well represented in Tallahassee, both by our local legislators and by the team NEFBA and FHBA teams.

In mid-February a group of NEFBA members representing builders, developers and subcontractors spent several days in Tallahassee attending the FHBA Spring Legislative Conference.

The group from NEFBA visited with local legislators advocating for a variety of bills, including HB 535, which would update the Florida Building Code, and SB 660, which would allow local governments to impose a documents tax in lieu of imposing an impact fee.

A strong push was also made for the full funding of the Sadowski Affordable Housing trust fund, which supports the State Housing Initiatives Partnership Program and the State Apartment Incentive Loan Program.
