City Notes: Adecco concluding 'CEO for One Month' camp

Adecco Group North America is wrapping up its 2016 “CEO for One Month” intern search today, the end of a three-day leadership boot camp.

The series of events took place in Jacksonville, with six finalists vying for the “CEO for One Month” title.

The winner will be chosen for a paid month-long summer internship and opportunity to work alongside Bob Crouch, Adecco Group North America CEO. The internship is worth $10,000.

Finalists were chosen from a pool of more than 4,000 applicants across North America, which is a 95 percent increase in entries from 2015. Applicants were judged on academic merit, leadership development, work experience and video submissions.

Finalists were: Ageliki Key of Miami; Amanda Zakoske of Orlando; Carl Saenger of Greenleaf, Wis.; Courtney Berger of Sarasota; Josh Mullenax of Fayetteville, Ark.; and Michael Worthington of Vancouver, B.C., Canada.

The winner will be announced at 4:30 p.m.

Lakeview Health opens women’s center

Lakeview Health opened its third women’s center this month, a facility that is home to The Rose of Lakeview. The Rose is an addiction treatment program for women.

It’s the final phase of Lakeview’s transition to gender-responsive treatment and accounts for the different ways men and women respond for long-term recovery.

The facility has 54 beds.

JaxBiz makes more endorsements

JaxBiz, the nonprofit, nonpartisan political arm of the JAX Chamber, this week announced several more endorsements for Legislature races.

The endorsements are:

• House District 11, Donnie Horner (R)

• House District 16, Jason Fischer (R)

• Senate District 8, Keith Parry (R)

The organization last month endorsed in the other races. Priorities include support for a half-cent sales tax extension to pay down pension debt; the Legislature’s role in economic incentives; funding for UF Health Jacksonville; economic development projects like harbor deepening; and school choice.

Mannick joins Forking Amazing

Forking Amazing Restaurants co-founders Jacques Klempf and Fraser Burns have appointed Matt Mannick as the group’s president.

Mannick joined Forking Amazing as general manager of Bistro Aix in June 2014 and was promoted to director of restaurant operations for the group a year later. He has more than 10 years of experience in the food and beverage industry, much of it local.

As president, Mannick will oversee business operations for the group that comprises Ovinte, Bistro Aix and II Desco, while also taking a role in community engagement opportunities.

Allegiant Air begins 3 routes at JAX

Allegiant Air is beginning new nonstop service this week from Jacksonville International Airport to Columbus Rickenbacher Airport; Asheville, N.C.; and MidAmerica St. Louis Airport.

On Wednesday, the service to and from Columbus begins with first departure at 2:47 p.m.

On Friday, the airline will make its first departure to St. Louis at 9:20 a.m. and first departure to Asheville at 2:28 p.m.

Now departing for the Bahamas

Silver Airways is starting its first nonstop service between Jacksonville International Airport and Nassau Bahamas at 2:15 p.m. Thursday.

Flights after that are: Jacksonville to Nassau at 3 p.m. Thursdays and 3:21 p.m. Sundays, with arrivals at 5:03 p.m. and 5:24 p.m., respectively.

Return trips depart Nassau at 12:30 p.m. Sundays and 12:49 p.m. Thursdays, with landings in Jacksonville at 2:51 p.m. and 3:10 p.m. those same days.

Crowley investing more in Puerto Rico, also hands out scholarships

Crowley Puerto Rico Services, part of Jacksonville-based Crowley Maritime Corp., is investing an additional $21 million for upgrades at its Isla Grande port terminal in San Juan.

It’s the latest in a series of investments to support the company’s terminal and shipping operations in the country.

It includes expanding the capacity for handling refrigerated containers, paving 15 acres for containers, a new electrical substation and a seven-lane terminal exit gate.

Crowley has served the Puerto Rico market from the 75-acre Isla Grand terminal since 1952. It has more than 250 employees in Puerto Rico.

Additionally, Crowley awarded four Thomas B. Crowley Sr. Memorial Scholarships to students of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. The four were chosen based on grades, financial need and plans to pursue a career in the maritime industry.

Since 1984, the company has given more than $3 million in scholarship funding for more than 1,000 students.

Wayman summer camps begin in June

Registration is open for the Wayman Community Development Corp. summer camps that begin June 13 and June 20.

The four camps at three locations are open for students ages 5-15. Camps will be at Biltmore Elementary, 5101 W. Palm Ave.; Pine Forest Elementary, 3929 Grant Road; and Wayman Academy of the Arts, 1176 Labelle St.

Lunch and a snack are provided and seats are limited.

The camps are funded in part by the Jacksonville Children’s Commission and Jacksonville Journey.

The development corporation also will host Camp ESCAPE at Wayman Academy, a seven-week free camp for children who live in Eureka Garden apartments.

Clay economic development group meeting June 16

The Clay County Economic Development Corp. will host its second-quarter luncheon from 11:30-1 p.m. June 16 at the Thrasher-Horne Conference Center.

The topic is the importance of commercial real estate for the economic development process and will feature Clay County commercial and industrial properties.

The event will feature an update on recent announcements and ongoing projects.

Skyway hours extended for Jazz Festival

With the Jazz Festival this weekend, the Jacksonville Transportation Authority is adding extra hours to its Skyway service Downtown.

Extended hours are 6 a.m.-2:30 a.m. Friday, 11 a.m.-2:30 a.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m.-midnight Sunday. It will be closed Monday in observance of Memorial Day.

Complimentary parking is available in the Houston and Stuart Street lots north of the Convention Center Skyway Station at 1071 W. Bay St.

Due to expected high ridership during the festival, bicycles, coolers and doublewide baby strollers are not allowed on the trains.
