Fatalities caused by falls from elevation continue to be a leading cause of death for construction workers. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 350 of the 937 construction fatalities in 2015 were caused by falls from elevation. To help reduce that number to zero, NEFBA joined forces with the Northeast Florida Safety Council and HRH Safety to host the Northeast Florida Fall Prevention Training Day May 9 at Cal-Atlantic’s Celestina development. More than 100 workers attended the event, which covered a variety of fall-related safety topics, including ladders, scaffolds, fall arrest systems and hazard recognition. After the training, participants were served lunch provided by Builders First Source as OSHA area director Brian Sturtecky spoke. Sponsors for the event included Onsite Safety, Builders First Source, Cal-Atlantic Homes, DR Horton, DuPont Tyvek, HRH Safety, Kirk’s Framing, Insuramerica of Florida, Abatix, Durabild Solution, HW Contracting, Coastal Roofing and Alliance Building Solutions.
