MSC Mediterranean Shipping Co. is adding its fifth container service at JaxPort, the Jacksonville Port Authority announced March 23.

The Switzerland-based company will offer the direct, biweekly container service with seven Northern Europe destinations starting in late April at JaxPort, the port said in a news release.

MSC Mediterranean’s ScanBaltic service to the U.S. focuses on commodities including food and beverage, auto parts and forest products shipping.

Jacksonville has been added to ScanBaltic’s port rotation that comprises Klaipeda, Lithuania; Gdynia, Poland; Gothenburg, Sweden; Bremerhaven, Germany; Felixstowe, England; Antwerp, Belgium; Le Havre, France; New York; Philadelphia; Norfolk, Virginia; and Jacksonville, the release says.

MSC has existing service from JaxPort to Asian destinations through the 2M Alliance; a North America service, Canada Gulf Bridge; and two Caribbean services, Bahamas Express and Florida Gulf Feeder.

“MSC is the world’s largest ocean carrier and JAXPORT’s largest container customer by the number of ocean carrier services offered through our port,” JaxPort CEO Eric Green said in the release.
