Fifth Third Bank continues to expand in St. Johns County with plans for a branch in the Rivertown master-planned community.

It would be the Cincinnati-based bank’s sixth branch in the county.

It will be at the Shoppes at Rivertown, anchored by Publix, at 205 Rivertown Shops Drive off Greenbriar Road and Longleaf Parkway.

The county is reviewing plans submitted April 10.

They show a 2,554-square-foot building with a drive-thru and 15 parking spaces.

Tampa-based Infinity Engineering Group is the civil engineer. BDG Architects of Jacksonville is the architect.

The county issued a permit Jan. 7 for the bank to build a location at 144 Registry Blvd. in the Murabella community in the Shoppes at Tocoi Creek. Prosser | Prime AE is the civil engineer. BDG Architects is the architect. Both firms are based in Jacksonville.

Site plans for that location show a 1,900-square-foot building with a drive-thru and 12 parking spaces at 144 Registry Blvd., about 2 miles west of World Commerce Center.

The project cost is about $2.8 million.

Other Fifth Third branches in the county are at 180 Bartram Market Drive in Saint Johns; 775 County Road 210 W. in Beachwalk; 500 Florida A1A N. in Ponte Vedra Beach; and 52 Village Lake Drive in Nocatee in Ponte Vedra.

According to 53.com, the bank operates in 11 states with 1,087 full-service locations. In addition to the 186 branches in Florida, the bank operates in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

It reported assets of $214 billion in its third-quarter 2024 report.

Fifth Third was founded as Bank of the Ohio Valley in Cincinnati in 1858. In 1871, the Bank of the Ohio Valley was purchased by Third National Bank.

Third National Bank and Fifth National Bank later merged, and the organization eventually became known as Fifth Third Bank.
