Sylvan Learning Centers are expanding in St. Johns County.

Franchisee Anil Singh plans to operate three Sylvan Learning Center locations across Ponte Vedra Beach and St. Augustine.

The first opened April 1 at 13000 Sawgrass Village Circle, Suite 15.

Singh and his wife, Maila, will open a second location April 16 at 585 International Golf Parkway, Suite 507, in St. Augustine, about a mile west of U.S. 1.

A third location is planned in Julington Creek for late 2025.

Singh, a New York University graduate, said he is still negotiating the exact site but said it will be convenient for parents.

Founded in 1979, Sylvan Learning operates more than 750 locations worldwide, including 37 in Florida. The centers focus on addressing learning gaps for elementary, middle and high school students and also provide standardized test preparation.

Sylvan Learning was acquired by Texas-based Unleashed Brands in 2024. Unleashed is owned by private equity firm Seidler Equity Partners.

“She’s my boss,” Singh said of Maila, who oversees back-office operations while he handles marketing and public relations.

Singh brings 20 years of experience in business management and education, including a background in teaching undergraduate mathematics and STEM courses.

Sylvan Learning Centers franchisees Anil and Maila Singh are opening a location April 16 at 585 International Golf Parkway, Suite 507, in St. Augustine, about a mile west of U.S. 1. It will be the second of three locations they plan in St. Johns County.

“We’re experts at this. We can look at your kid or any kid and say, ‘Well, they are strong in algebra but weak in geometry,’” he said. “We have all of this information and can create a personalized learning plan.”

Sylvan said in a news release that “Even in one of Florida’s top-rated school districts, parents were seeking additional learning support to help their children excel.”

“That’s why the Singhs are bringing Sylvan Learning’s technology-driven, personalized programs to the area, helping students build confidence and succeed academically. Their goal is to ensure all students, including those in underserved communities, have access to the resources they need to succeed,” it said.

According to Sylvan’s website, pricing varies by location.
