Avecina Medical issued build-out permit at Shops at Racetrack Rd.

It will be the urgent care provider’s 15th location, with more planned.

Urgent care provider Avecina Medical is permitted to build-out space at Shops at Racetrack Rd in Saint Johns. 

Premier American Construction of Green Cove Springs is the contractor for the 3,364-square-foot space. The project cost is estimated at $150,000.

Shops at Racetrack Rd is under development at 4560 Race Track Road east of St. Johns Parkway. It is about 3 miles west of Interstate 95. Avecina signed a lease at the property in April, according to Atlantic Retail, the property’s real estate broker. 

At 62,726 square feet, there is a total of nine leasable spaces in the shopping center, including an unidentified grocery store anchor, according to marketing information.

Avecina is among other planned tenants there, including Another Broken Egg Cafe, Dutch Bros Coffee, Indian grocer and restaurant Chowrastha and Heartland Dental. 

KFC was previously confirmed but later dropped out, according to Atlantic Retail.

Founded in 2005, Avecina Medical has 14 locations in Northeast Florida, Daytona Beach, Gainesville and Ocala. Five more are planned in Clermont, Lake Mary, Palm Coast, Saint Johns, The Villages and Winter Park, according to Avecina.com.

Avecina treats health issues that do not require hospital admission, including vehicle accidents; cold, flu, sinus and respiratory illnesses; burns; workers' compensation injuries; and other nonlife-threatening conditions. All locations offer X-rays.

Clinics are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday-Friday, and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

St. John’s at Racetrack LLC owns the shopping center. The company purchased the 7-acre site in 2022 for $8.5 million. The project broke ground in August 2024.
