Jefe’s Fish Wagon set to open in St. Augustine with ‘laid-back, vacation atmosphere’

Genie and Jeff McNally’s third food enterprise will set up at Homski’s Brewing Co., south of the Bridge of Lions.

The operators of two St. Augustine restaurants have set an Aug. 22 opening date for their new concept, Jefe’s Fish Wagon. 

In an Aug. 13 news release, owners Genie and Jeff McNally said the food truck will be at Hornski’s Brewing Co. at 100 Anastasia Blvd., south of the Bridge of Lions. 

It will be the married couple’s third St. Augustine food enterprise, joining Bea’s Fine Foods + All Day Cafe at 9 Anastasia Blvd. and The Floridian, which is moving from 72 Spanish St. to 485 Old Beach Road, about a mile south of the St. Augustine Amphitheatre.

The McNallys say they are fans of fish shacks, having visited them from the Carolina Low Country to the beaches of Puerto Rico.

“Genie and I have always connected with people who love and live for good, simple, fresh-from-the-source food,” Jeff McNally said in the release.

“On our breaks away from The Floridian, we always look for those places where the locals come to eat and just chill. We wanted to create a place where we could let the ingredients speak and capture that laid-back, vacation atmosphere. And it’s situated at a super-cool, local brewery. What more could you want?”

Genie McNally is the executive chef of Jefe’s Fish Wagon. 

Customers will have their choice of shrimp, tuna, salmon, the catch of the day or tofu. The items are served as burritos, sandwiches, salads or as plate dinners. 

Sides include Hoppin’ John, a rice and beans dish; a small salad; or Hurricane fries that are hand-cut and topped with a sauce made from chimichurri and a house-made datil-carrot hot sauce.

The wagon also serves ceviche as well as poke bowls that include a vegan version made with citrus-cured beets, ponzu, sesame honey and furikake.

Hours will be noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and noon to 9 p.m. Friday through Sunday.
