Wade Schroeder is the new director of the St. Johns County Office of Management and Budget.

The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved his appointment Aug. 19. He replaces Jesse Dunn, who was named deputy county administrator in late 2024.

According to the county website, “The Office of Management & Budget is responsible for the facilitation, coordination, preparation, and monitoring of all County budgets. In addition, OMB analyzes and advises on financial management issues for the County to develop more efficient, innovative and effective methods of utilizing resources and personnel under the direction of the County Administrator.”

Schroeder has worked in the OMB for more than 20 years, serving as assistant director since 2016. He helped guide the county through the recession, COVID-19 and multiple disaster recoveries, according to a county release.

During his time in the office, Moody’s upgraded St. Johns County’s issuer rating to Aaa, its highest, from Aa1 in 2021.

In July, the Government Finance Officers Association named St. Johns County a 2023 Triple Crown Winner for earning three awards for financial transparency. The county is one of 403 governments in the United States and Canada to receive the Triple Crown for fiscal 2023.

“His steady leadership and commitment to conservative financial policies have helped position our county as one of the strongest in the nation,” County Administrator Joy Andrews said in a statement.

Schroeder previously worked five years in the St. Johns County Clerk of Courts Finance Department.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Central Florida and a master’s in public administration from the University of West Florida.
