Travelers who parked in the hourly garage at Jacksonville International Airport and were affected by the May 16 fire can visit flyjax.com to sign up for updates as they become available.

Those registering will be asked to provide contact information and the license plate number of their vehicles.

According to a May 17 release, the hourly garage is closed indefinitely to vehicles and pedestrians because of structural damage. Vehicles are not permitted to access the facility until further notice. The Jacksonville Aviation Authority has not announced a reopening date.

In addition to the hourly garage, the airport’s daily garage and surface lot are closed to incoming vehicles, though passengers with vehicles already parked there may retrieve them.

The release said on-airport parking will be limited due to the closure. Travelers with upcoming flights are encouraged to consider alternate parking or transportation options, such as off-site facilities along Airport Road, shared rides or being dropped off and picked up at the terminal.

Officials said about 50 vehicles were damaged in the fire, which also caused structural damage. No injuries have been reported.

The fire is believed to have started around noon in a vehicle on the second floor of the garage.
