The Orange Park Walmart Supercenter off Blanding Boulevard is the latest location to explore adding EV charging stations.

The St. Johns River Water Management District and Clay County are reviewing plans for the project, which is sited on the southern portion of the Walmart property.

The store is at 899 Blanding Blvd., about 1.6 miles south of an Aldi and about one-half mile north of the Publix-anchored Village Shopping Center.

Bowman Consulting Group Ltd. of Melbourne is the civil engineer. Walmart Inc. owns the land.

Elsewhere in Clay County, the Middleburg Walmart at 1580 Branan Field Road is planning to add EV chargers. Clay County has approved construction plans but has yet to issue a building permit, which will include project costs.

In Jacksonville, Walmart has been permitted for site work to install electric vehicle chargers at six supercenters and two Neighborhood Markets, with three more store sites under review.

That totals 11 Jacksonville locations for EV chargers at about $1.3 million each, or $14.3 million overall.

Most recently, the city issued a permit Nov. 7 for the supercenter at 7075 Collins Road in Southwest Jacksonville.

Walmart announced in April 2023 that it plans to build its own EV fast-charging network at thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club stores across the country by 2030.

The company said that with a store or club within 10 miles of about 90% of U.S. residents, “We are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban or urban areas.”

The EV engineering site ChargeDevs.com reported April 30, 2025, that Bentonville, Arkansas-based Walmart had opened three pilot locations — two in Texas and one in Arkansas.

Walmart.com says chargers are now at 10 locations — eight in Texas and one each in Arkansas and Oklahoma.

A dozen more are coming soon, including six in Texas, four in Arizona, one in Georgia and one in Florida, in Lakeland.
