A new segment of County Road 2209 in St. Johns County is open.
Designed to improve traffic flow in the northern part of the county, the four-lane roadway extends 3.9 miles from Silverleaf Parkway to International Golf Parkway, east of Tocoi Creek High School.
The segment is part of the larger 2209 Central Project, which will eventually span 7.7 miles from County Road 210 to Florida 16 at a cost of $32.5 million. Construction began Dec. 21, 2023.

Jacksonville-based J.B. Coxwell Contracting is overseeing the project.
The Florida Department of Transportation is partnering with the county and contributing funding for the improvements, according to St. Johns County.
St. Johns County Commissioner Sarah Arnold, who represents the district, said the project will have a lasting impact.
“Oh, my goodness, this is huge. This has been years in the making,” she said during an Oct. 28 ribbon cutting ceremony marking the opening. “It’s going to be a tremendous improvement to not only public safety but the quality of life for our residents.
“My children go to Tocoi. This is big for our family.”
