Spring is in full swing — and so is Alternative Spring Break for law students. Each year, organizations like Jacksonville Area Legal Aid and Three Rivers Legal Services welcome students from near and far to earn volunteer hours, gain hands-on experience and make a meaningful impact in the community from March 16 through March 20.

This year, Three Rivers welcomed 32 students to its Gainesville office, including participants from the University of Florida Levin College of Law who collectively contributed 500 hours of service. Their work was carried out remotely and on-site in Gainesville, with a focus on supporting efforts in Duval County.

Students assisted clients by preparing and completing pro se divorce petitions and advance directives, researching criminal records for eight clients seeking sealing and expungement and reviewing 2,673 eviction cases. Through these efforts, they played a meaningful role in expanding access to justice for underserved communities.

These programs aren’t just about volunteering. They are a chance to explore legal aid work, connect with peers and see the power of pro bono in action.

Pro bono recognition continues with the 4th Judicial Circuit’s 2026 Presentation of The Pins – Celebrate Our Pro Bono Champions at noon April 24 at the Duval County Courthouse.

This year, the event features keynote speaker Asghar Syed, president-elect of the Jacksonville Bar Association.

Join us as we honor attorneys who made a difference through pro bono service in 2025. All are welcome. Come celebrate, network with attorneys and judges and see how dedication and pro bono work transform lives.
