Veritas Classical School, a private Christian academy founded in 2017, has moved closer to establishing a permanent campus at 635 S. Holmes Blvd. in St. Augustine.
Civil plans were submitted Aug. 6 to St. Johns County.
In March, the school started the process to rezone approximately 32.65 acres of property to allow development of a permanent campus that would bring together its two existing locations. A school staff member confirmed the single-campus plan.
The rezoning application remains pending.
Veritas currently leases two campuses: at 253 Florida 16 for kindergarten through third grade and at 169 Martin Luther King Ave. for sixth through 12th grades, but it purchased the Holmes Boulevard property for $1.6 million from David Sellers Nov. 12, 2025, according to the St. Johns County Property Appraiser. According to the commercial application, about 8 acres are planned for the campus.
Site plans under county review show a 10,240-square-foot building where a single-family home built in 1993 currently sits. Two future structures are planned at 15,000 square feet and 10,924 square feet. A basketball court and associated infrastructure are mentioned on the commercial application.
Matthews | DCCM of St. Augustine is named as the civil engineer.
According to the school’s website, Veritas emphasizes academics including mathematics and reading, as well as fine arts, music and physical education. The school teaches through a biblical worldview using classical Christian values, according to its mission statement and purpose.
Veritas opened with 45 students and reported 235 students in 2023, according to the website.
The school is accredited by the Association of Classical Christian Schools and the National Council for Private School Accrediting.
The St. Johns County Development Review Committee is scheduled to discuss the Veritas project Aug. 26.
County comments indicate the project cannot move forward until the rezoning request is heard by the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency and approved by the St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners.
